The peace of Toktogul lake
About the Toktogul lake
A picturesque road runs along the bank, offering breathtaking views of the reservoir, the surrounding mountains and the Naryn River valley. The Toktogul reservoir is the largest in Central Asia. Its average depth is around 215 m. There are two powerful hydroelectric power stations in this reservoir - Toktogul and Kurpsai. The reservoir took 10 years to build. In summer, the water is warm and pleasant - a real blessing for swimmers. Fishermen will also be delighted: the reservoir is home to fish species such as trout, pike, perch and carp. The river flows from Kyrgyzstan into Uzbekistan, where it joins one of Central Asia's two largest rivers, the Syr Darya and Amu Darya, and also crosses into Kazakhstan.
