Requirements and notes for the tour
  • Physical Requirements:
    Moderate fitness level required. Days 3 and 7 include long horseback rides (up to 8 hours), and Day 10 includes a 12 km round-trip hike in Konorchek Canyon.
    Participants should be comfortable with walking on uneven terrain and spending time at high altitudes (up to 3,500 meters at Son Kul and Ala-Kul).
    Previous horse riding experience is helpful but not mandatory; basic instructions will be provided.
  • Travel Essentials:
    Valid passport with at least 6 months of validity from the end of the trip.
    Depending on your nationality, visa requirements may apply. Please check with your local consulate.
  • Packing List:
    Warm clothing: Nights in mountain regions (Son Kul, Altyn Arashan) can be cold, even in summer.
    Layered clothing for fluctuating temperatures
    Comfortable hiking shoes or trekking boots
    Waterproof jacket and/or rain poncho
    Daypack, reusable water bottle, sunglasses, sunblock, and hat
    Swimsuit for Issyk-Kul Lake and optional hot springs
    Power bank (some remote areas have limited electricity)
    Personal medications and basic first aid
  • Cultural Etiquette:
    Respect local customs, traditions, and nomadic lifestyle—especially in yurt camps and small villages.
    Always ask for permission before photographing people, especially elders or religious sites.
    Modest clothing is recommended, particularly when visiting villages and religious monuments.
  • Accommodation Notes:
    You will stay in a mix of local guest houses and traditional yurt camps, often family-run with warm hospitality.
    Facilities in remote areas may be basic but clean, with shared bathrooms and limited hot water.
    At Son Kul and Altyn Arashan, mobile reception and internet may be unavailable or extremely limited.
  • Food & Dietary Info:
    Meals are home-cooked and traditional, featuring Kyrgyz staples like soups, dumplings, rice, and fresh bread.
    Vegetarian options are available with advance notice, though choices may be limited in rural areas.
    Please inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions before the trip.
  • Transportation & Road Conditions:
    Travel is by comfortable minivan or 4WD vehicle, with occasional use of Russian off-road trucks for mountain access.
    Some roads, especially to Son Kul and Altyn Arashan, can be bumpy and unpaved.
    Drive times may vary depending on weather and road conditions.
  • Climate Overview:
    Summer (June–September): Ideal for travel. Expect warm days (15–30°C) and cool nights (down to 0°C in high altitudes).
    Weather in the mountains can change rapidly. Be prepared for sun, wind, and occasional rain or snow, even in summer.
